Shred-It Day Returns for 2025

Shred-It Day Returns for 2025

Every year The Savings Bank hosts Shred-It Day to encourage the community to safely dispose of their sensitive documents. Whether you are a Shred-It Day veteran, or this will be your first event, keep reading for details!

Shred-It Day is much more than an opportunity for our community to dispose of paperwork build-up! While it does help reduce waste in your home or business, it is also extremely important, as it helps our community members securely dispose of sensitive documents. These documents often include personal identifying information like date of birth, Social Security Number, account numbers, addresses, and phone numbers. If criminals can access this information it could lead to fraud, or even identity theft. However, shredding these documents rather than throwing them away or recycling them ensures that no one else can access them. When you drop off these documents, Shred-It employees destroy them securely on the spot. This means no one else will ever have access to personal information found on things like bank statements, tax return, or loan documents.

Preparing for Shred-It Day is easy! Start by compiling all your paperwork in one place. If it is not already organized, go through and separate items by year and type. Then decide which documents to keep and which to shred. (Usually, tax returns should be kept for seven years and other things like bank statements should be kept for a year.) You could also choose to digitize these documents before destroying them! Finally, box up any of the documents you have decided to shred and make sure you remove any paper clips, binder clips, or other objects.

This year’s Shred-It Day will be held in the parking lot of Circleville Middle School (360 Clark Drive) on Saturday, May 17th from 8 a.m. to Noon. This is a drive-up event and once you get to the parking lot, you will be directed by a team member. Your paperwork (5 box maximum) will then be shredded by volunteers and Shred-It employees. If you would like your boxes back, just let our team members know. Otherwise, we will take care of them for you!

We would also like to mention that the local food pantry will be on site collecting donations of non-perishable food items. Helpful items include pasta, canned vegetables and meals, soup, and cereal. Once you have dropped off your paperwork for shredding, the pantry will be set up on the way out, making it easy! All donations will benefit local families in need.

Thank you to all our community members and we hope to see you there!
