Community Spotlight: ArtsaRound

Pickaway County is home to many artists, and ArtsaRound is an organization that provides those artists with a variety of opportunities. The Savings Bank was lucky to host an art show in conjunction with ArtsaRound in 2019, featuring the work of Tonya Bess. Those pieces were purchased for our Lending Center decor, but there are so many unique creators here in Pickaway.

We caught up with ArtsaRound President Dale Herron about the awesome work this organization does.

--

Hi, Dale! Can you tell us a little bit about what ArtsaRound does in the community?

ArtsaRound is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing all forms of art in Pickaway County and the regional area. We do this through promotion of artists, networking, exposure and opportunity, and some fiscal support as well. It’s our belief that supporting local artists will deepen the culture, and by extension, enrich our community.

One of our main avenues for fulfilling our mission has been the establishment of a permanent gallery, The ArtsaRound Gallery on the Original Circle, at 135 W. Main Street in Circleville. Here, we showcase talent from or with a connection to Pickaway. As the year continues, we hope to resume a full schedule of programming and exhibits.

We also work closely with other local organizations such as Uptown Circleville, Roundtown Players, the Visitor’s Bureau, and Circleville Pumpkin Show.

Our annual Visual Arts Scholarship is our way of supporting the upcoming generation of creatives.

How was ArtsaRound first established?

We formed in 2001 by a group of citizens interested in promoting the arts in Pickaway County. Soon after our formation, we were instrumental in raising funds for the iconic murals in downtown Circleville. Early projects included concert series and downtown art shows.

What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the Pickaway County community?

People are always willing to use their time, talents, and resources to be willing to get behind what they believe. I think this broadens our connectedness, and makes this a desirable place to live.

What advice would you give folks who want to make a difference in their community?

Whatever your passion, pursue it! Find others who share it and roll up your sleeves to make a community impact. There are several existing organizations that can use your involvement, in whatever it is you enjoy doing. If you can’t find one, start one.

How can folks help ArtsaRound and where can they find you online?

ArtsaRound is always in need of those interested in getting involved in growing the local arts scene, whether you’re an artist or “just” someone who loves art. We are currently seeking volunteers at the Gallery to assist with staffing and programming. And, of course, we’re always looking for more artists to support!

An annual ArtsaRound membership is a great way to join our mission, and it comes with some benefits. If this sounds interesting to you, please check our Facebook page @PickawayArtsaRound or visit www.ArtsaRound.org, or drop us a line at [email protected].

If you’d like to help, but are limited on time and energy, we accept your tax-deductible donations at any time.
