Business Relationship Banker Kayla Greeno: Haven House

Business Relationship Banker Kayla Greeno: Haven House

Our communities are filled with many amazing charities, nonprofits, and groups looking to improve the lives of everyone in the area. Here at The Savings Bank, we love to share the organizations our employees are involved in so we can shed light on all the amazing work they do. This week, we spoke with Business Relationship Banker Kayla Greeno about her work with Haven House of Pickaway County.

Q: First, can you introduce yourself and your role with Haven House?

A: My name is Kayla Greeno and I am the Business Relationship Banker for The Savings Bank. I am the Financial Chairperson for the Haven House of Pickaway County, Inc Board.

Q: Can you tell us a bit more about Haven House and its mission?

A: Haven House is Pickaway County’s Women’s Shelter. Our mission is to provide a safe

place for women and their children who need a safe space to gather their life together and receive assistance while doing so. Each woman’s situation is different; some are victims of domestic violence, others are thrown out of their homes, some age out of the

foster care system, and others are homeless and seeking assistance. We have even had some who followed their significant others from other cities or states only to be abandoned and [then] need help getting back home. Haven House has done and continues to

do great things for women and children any chance they get.

Q: What do you wish more people knew about the organization or how it helps people in the area?

A: I wish more people knew of its existence. I, for one, knew very little about it until I was approached to join the board. Haven House also helps these women find homes, jobs, legal assistance, and medical assistance, both physical and mental. Something I never thought about when making donations, because the mind often goes to money and clothes, [are] household items. When I say household, I mean laundry soap, dish soap, paper towel, shampoo, conditioner, disinfectant wipes, air fresheners, paper plates, food, snacks, batteries, feminine hygiene, diapers, wipes, baby formula, baby food, and so much more. These types of donations not only help the women and children in the shelter, but the shelter itself.

Q: What is your favorite part of your work with Haven House?

A: I have two favorites; one is hearing these women’s stories and knowing that we have provided a safe place for them to come to and find help. My second favorite is fundraising. I enjoy this because it gives us the chance to reach out to the community and spread awareness for Haven House and its mission while also raising funds to help the non-profit and its residents. One of the great things about Haven House is that they even reach out to previous residents to check on them and offer any extra assistance that may be needed.

Q: Are there any upcoming events for people to attend?

A: There will be a fundraising event put on by the Pickaway Country Club called “The Mom” on June 22nd & 23rd. It is a golfing event for anyone who wishes to participate, and the money raised will be donated to Haven House. Our yearly events include a Fish Fry which will be on September 20th in the Haven House parking lot. We put on a Silent Victims March the first week of October. We also park cars during the Pumpkin Show in our parking lot, and in February we have our Valentine’s Day Dinner & Dance which will be on February 15, 2025.

Q: How can people contact Haven House to ask questions or get involved?

A: Anyone wanting to get involved can follow us on Facebook at Haven House of Pickaway County, Inc. They can also contact our Director Lisa Johnson or Manager Rachel Dye at 740-474-9430 or at their respective emails: Rachel Dye at [email protected] or Lisa Johnson at [email protected]. [Anyone] can go to the local Goodwill in Circleville and make a monetary donation to Haven House and the women at the shelter receive a voucher to shop at Goodwill for free. Any donations are also welcome to help the women and children who seek refuge in this shelter.

Thank you, Kayla and Haven House of Pickaway County!
