Taking the Next Step in Charity: Virtual 5ks and Charity Walks

It’s no secret that the pandemic has put a lot of stress on community and charity events. Scores of annual get-togethers have been forced to cancel this year, but the organizers of 5ks and charity walks have found a unique way to battle the obstacles presented by COVID-19.

Virtual events allow charities and local groups to continue to raise money while keeping social distancing in mind. Participants sign up for the event and then have an extended time frame to run, walk, jog, or roll-- wherever they want!

It’s more important than ever to support local charities and community organizations, and this is a great way to do it while staying active and promoting social distancing at once. Here are a few of the local virtual 5ks and walks coming up in our area!

Circleville Walk to End Alzheimer’s: This walk has been a staple in Circleville for many years now, and it’s continuing this year with a virtual kick-off event on October 3rd. Participants can then walk anywhere they like—in their favorite neighborhoods, nature trails and city parks! Learn more by clicking here and find out how you can support this important cause.

Circleville Classic: The 33rd Circleville Classic has gone virtual, too! This event offers 5-mile run/walk, 5k run/walk, and 1–mile run/walk options, all virtual and designed with social-distancing in mind. You pick your own route and participate whenever suits you starting October 24th through 31st! Click here to learn more and register. Proceeds from the event benefit the Jeff and Jean McGowan Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Rockin’ on the Run: This awesome event in London, Ohio supports brain tumor research and has also moved to a virtual model! Visit RockinOnTheRun.org to learn more and register. You can register for a 5k or 1-miler and choose your own route anytime from October 2nd through October 11th.

What a great way to walk with a purpose! Check in with your favorite events and groups to see if there are ways to support this year. It’s important to come together even as we stand apart!
