Spotlight On: The Savings Bank's Annual Food Drive

Spotlight On: The Savings Bank’s Annual Food Drive

One of The Savings Bank’s favorite events to host each year is our Food Drive! This week, we want to highlight the food drive as well as answer some commonly asked questions.

While The Savings Bank has focused on ending hunger through various initiatives for over two decades, the annual November food drive only officially began ten years ago. Meant to continue the bank’s commitment to its communities, all proceeds of the drive go to local food pantries.

How does it work?

Answer: Beginning November 1, anyone may donate at participating locations of The Savings Bank. This year those locations are Circleville, Ashville, Lancaster (Ety Road and Wheeling Street), and Williamsport. In the lobby of each of those locations will be a shopping cart where you may leave non-perishable donations. If you do not see the shopping cart, please feel free to ask one of our friendly employees for directions!

Each year, local food pantries rely on donations of non-perishable items to help those in need. Many of these items include canned goods, pasta, cereal, formula, and other essentials. If you are curious about your community’s most needed items, it is recommended to reach out directly to your local food bank. Keep in mind that no donation is too large or too small!

What items can The Savings Bank accept?

Answer: The Savings Bank can accept most non-perishable items! While we cannot accept donations that require refrigeration or are expired, we can accept canned goods, dry goods, and much more.  Popular items include soup, cereal, baby food, canned vegetables, beans, and pasta. Baking items like flour or sugar are also appreciated!

What happens to my donations after I drop them off?

Answer: All items will be taken to local pantries after the November 30th end date. The pantries we support each year may rotate, but we always make certain that the items collected in each community we serve stay within that community.

Where can I find more information about the food drive and see what has been donated?

Answer: Our Facebook page will be periodically updated with information about the food drive as well as share fun progress pictures of all the generous donations! Visit Facebook.com/TheSavingsBankOhio or TheSavingsBankOhio.bank to learn more!

The 2023 Food Drive still has a little over a week left, but we want to recognize the generosity of those in our communities. While the food drive takes in many donations every year, this year has been especially productive. So far, we have filled the shopping carts at several of our locations and are even in the process of filling some of them a second time.

Thank you to all those who have donated and those who help make the food drive happen!
