The Gazebo Gatherings have been a community staple in Ashville for almost thirty years. This year will feature a concert and picnic on one day only, so mark your calendars for 4:00 on Sunday, September 5 and visit Ashville Community Park for good food and good music!

The Savings Bank has been a supporter of Gazebo Gatherings for many years, and this year is no different! We chatted with event organizer Dave Rainey to learn more about this event series.

Hi, Dave! Tell us how Gazebo Gatherings came to be.

Members of Ashville Community Players paid to have the gazebo built in 1988.

Clara Lou Stewart, Ada Lou Deal, Carolyn Lutz, Louise Barr and Cathy Leatherwood approached me about doing some concerts.  Cathy Leatherwood came up with the name Gazebo Gatherings.  We did some things occasionally but started with a regular schedule in 1993. We have been doing the picnic for well over 20 years.

What kinds of music have been featured over the years?

Over the years we have featured a wide range of music from Classical, Big Band, Jazz, Bluegrass and everything in between!

What’s your favorite thing about being a part of the Pickaway County community?

My favorite thing about the Pickaway County Community is that there are several groups and individuals who are passionate about particular projects or causes. This allows us as a community to provide great entertainment and enrichment to those in the County.

We are also very blessed to have great business support from The Savings Bank, Miriam Ruggles Adkins Foundation and many other businesses and Civic Organizations. It makes us unique and defines who we are as a community.

What advice would you give folks who want to make a difference in their community?

To those looking to get involved I say, "Find where your interests are and go with it." Some are interested in sports, others music and the arts. Others enjoy helping our senior citizens or youth. Follow your passion and you will find your purpose.
